Application has failed to start...

Has anyone seen this before?  If so, what did you do to resolve it?

"The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect.  Please see the application event log or use the command-line sxstrace.exe tool for more detail."

It usually means you are triing to run an exe in a virtual OS (such as a win 7 pc in an XP compatability mode) and are triing to access a hardware resource that is not exposed to the virtual machine.

I believe the exe was created on Win XP and is now on a Win 7 machine.  No virtual enviornment.

This could be a few different things. Below are some links to similar cases.

Do you have Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 x86 and x64 installed on your computer? What operating system are you running? Have you installed anything lately? Try restarting your computer. What exactly are you doing when you get this error?
