Anyone taken the Certified Labview Architect exam?

Oops, one rant was enough, not sure how it got posted twice.

One more analogy, a little closer to what I think is the issue:   You are a competent apprentice carpenter about to take an exam to reach journeyman status. You are tasked with building a cabinet within a certain time limit using, at a minimum, the tools in a common layout shop. But this shop has the new layout, that some work flow expert decided was "better".  So now when you go to get the saw you have to open several drawers and cupboard doors looking for it, when you look for the screwdriver the same thing. There is that neat power plane in one drawer, but you don't need it for this task. Are the tools all there, yes. Will you have a lower likelyhood of passing the exam, yes. Should this indicate that you aren't journeyman material, I think not.

HI Putnam,

I am glad you posted twice because your rant is worthy of 10 stars.

Maybe you and I could team up on a BLOG?

http://forums.lavausergroup.org/index.php?automodule=blog

After all the LabVIEW Champions decided to keep our BLOG outside the NI teritory so we can speak freely.

I will watch for your reply here or there.

Hello!

I'm not sure if I'm going to be certified LV pro one day, but I have a little question to NI staff who is involved in certification program:

Is it really hard to make exams with LV version choice,
and pointing out the version in certificate?

For example, on brainbench site there're exams for different versions of some products, say Delphi 5.0, Delphi 6.0 and so on.

If I get it right the main purpose of certification is to provide for employers some gurantee that the hired man is skillful in the subject (in degree defined by NI).

A lot of companies use, say LV 7.1., and not going to upgrade if all is good enough for them. When looking for a man, they are interested in LV 7.1 skills and not 8.0 (I mean 8.0 skills is not MUST for them).

Why is there such unnecessary inequity?

Best regards,
Rashid.

Hi all, just thought I'd let you all know that I did the exam a couple of weeks ago - it was nothing at all like I expected, but.....I passed - so it looks as though all my concerns and anxieties about taking the exam were completely unfounded. With retrospect I also think that in terms of my software development abilities, not having a past paper is actually a benefit, as you are forced into learning everthing that could possibly come up, rather than just learning the stuff that will get you through the exam so I take back any criticism I may have made of Ni's support materials for the CLA.

Was wondering about ISA's Certified Automation Professional -- has anybody gone for it?  thought about it?  think it's worth it?  recognized in the industry?

Thanks,

Congratulations David! I'd say welcome to the club (CLA), but since I'm not yet a member myself ....  Maybe, next summer at NIWeek, if I've recovered from the Alliance BBQ or some Champions "meeting" I'll take the plunge!
