Hi,

I am planning to go for some CMOS camera ,

but I have a huge doubt before I buy that, the above menttioned camera is not listed anywhere in this list. Nor I can see any USB type camera being supported.

The question we have is

  1. does Any camera regardless of interface is available for use with the LabView interface ??
  2. Can I build a VI to communicate with any camera device and record image and take data ??

Any kind of help or advice is greatly appreciated ... I have to buy a CMOS camera and start getting it to Run.

Thanks ...

Hello abikutn,

You should be able to communicate to most cameras so long as they adhere to a common camera standard. The Vision Acquisition Software package includes the IMAQdx driver which will allow you to communicate to cameras that use GigE, DirectShow API (USB), and IEEE 1394 (DCAM/IIDC) cameras. You can also communicate to CameraLink cameras using the IMAQ driver which is also included.

If the device that you are looking at does not conform to any of these standards, you may still be able to communicate and acquire an image from it. However you will need to write all the interfacing code or have it supplied by the camera manufacturer. This process could be very intensive depending on the communication required.

Cheers,

Thanks. That is the exact information I need.

I am going to communicate with a USB 3.0 Interface camera. The one I am planning to buy doesnt show up in the industrial camera advisor list.

I hope to get it running succesfully. This is an important aspect of my thesis.

Thanks to one and all ...

Abhi 🙂

Hello Abhilash,

I am glad that this information was useful, one thing that I wanted to mention is that USB 3.0 has its own USB 3.0 Vision standard which is currently not supported. If this camera also is Direct Show compatible then you will be able to acquire an image using IMAQdx, and manipulate any attributes that are published to the Direct Show API.

Hopefully USB 3.0 Vision will be supported in the near future, and we have tentatively announced support for this communication standard for the updated August 2013 Vision Acquisition Software.

Cheers,

-Joel

So what you mean to say is. Even if I buy USB 3.0 camera now , There is no way I can communicate with it until the new release for LabView comes with support for USB 3.0 ??

Hello Abhi,

If the USB 3.0 Camera is also DirectShow compatible, then you will be able to acquire from the camera using IMAQdx. If the camera only supports the USB 3.0 Vision standard then you will not be able to acquire from the camera using IMAQdx as of right now.

Regards,
