Warning, Warning, Danger Will Robinson (uh oh, my age is showing).
Turns out the problem is the network controller on the PC.
Different network cards do not eliminate (or even minimize) the problem, but watching network performance on that PC it is definitely the network hanging up.
This particular app is very network intensive, other one use mysql and a network connection, but much fewer packets.
At present, we are putting a replica on that PC and I am modifiying the app to try to reduce the mysql access.
