How about this? You could calculate "gap" based on the max and min difference.

automatic detection of peaks and valleys from image histogram

Can some one help me out to find the peaks and valleys in my image histogram. I have attached my code, along with images to validate. i have managed to find the peaks , but detecting valley is being impossible.
