Repeat Last Command - F4 or Ctrl Y

Status: New

In Windows it is standard in almost all application to repeat the last action by using the F4 or Ctrl-Y to repeat the last action.  A simple thing like align left requires going through the menus every time.  Very annoying and not efficient.  Consider adding this useful keyboard action to the next version of LabVIEW.  If you drop down an add function then pressing F4 would drop down an additional add function.  Of course, Ctrl Z would undo the action.

Example from MS Word

Do you know, that you can repeat the last alignment action using Ctrl-Shift-A? You can repeat the last distribution action using Ctrl-D?

Nevertheless, I do like the idea of the general repeat functionality.

And I don't know anybody who uses the history window (which is currently linked to Ctrl-Y) anyway 🙂

Where do you find these mystical key sequences?  Yes, a general REDO key would help save me from learning another keystroke language.  I am sure the the engineers at NI can figure out how to make this happen.  I like the way MS actually updates the menu to show you it will redo [command].  Thanks for the tip!

You can learn about all sorts of keyboard shortcuts in this topic of the LabVIEW Help 🙂

I agree wholeheartedly with mfitzsimons - thanks for raising this. The LabVIEW experience would be made even better if there was a tick-box in the Options menu to change CTRL-Y to redo (as it is in most other applications I use). Looking forward to seeing this in the next release! 🙂

Repeat fromatting for controls  using CTRL Y to repeat the same formatting for controls would be very time saving

Repeat formating like the number of digits of precision for a control/indicator by using CTRL Y instead of going through menus and repeating the same number display format over and over again

Seems that NI has already allocated Ctrl-Y to , “Displays the History window”.  What does Y have to do with history I don’t know.  Ctrl-H (could be history) displays the Context Help window. Not really sure I need a short cut to history.  (Mac OS) Press the <Command-Shift-H> keys.

For a previous post: “Do you know, that you can repeat the last alignment action using Ctrl-Shift-A? You can repeat the last distribution action using Ctrl-D?”.  It would be nice to just bundle all the LAST commands into a single keystroke.

Here is a useful one: Ctrl-. Stops the VI, when used while VI is running.  This would be better served as a Ctrl-S (STOP) or Ctrl-Q (Quit).

Thanks for your support!  Still would like a repeat short cut soon.

I just attempted to add a similar suggestion that is either waiting for approval, denied, or just plain lost ... and so I found this suggestion later after reattempting mine again.  There are so many times where this would be useful.

My attempted post:

For commands that need to be used multiple times in a row from deeper menus a "repeat last command" would be very useful.  For example when deleting empty elements from an array constant, one has to right click on the element to delete and browse to "Data Operation" then "Delete Element" for each element to be removed.  If a short cut key were enabled a single right click then a repeat last command or a shortcut key stroke of Ctrl+L (or similar) could invoke the last command for the remaining elements.
