Have data type colors in color pallet of icon editor available by default.

Status: New

Wouldn’t it be more convenient if the color pallet in the icon editor included the default colors of the data types (the pink for strings, the orange for DBL, the green for Boolean, etc.)?

Can you tell us where you would use this kind of thing?

I can't think of a single instance where I needed to know or use a particular color because it matched a wire color when editing an icon.

For example, I have VI's that manage or handle specific data types. I color match the icon (some text or some glyphs on the icon) to match the color of the data type (like in the connector pane.) It's simply another visual que to indicate the purpose of the VI.

example.jpg From a distance, can you tell which one is the DBL array? LabVIEW already uses color in icons. Afterall, it provides a lot of information quickly. Having the primary data type colors in the icon editor color pallet would be convenient (for me anyway.)

Are you referring to having polymorphic VIs? If so, wouldn't it be more informative to display the polymorphic selector menu?

I wasn't considering polymorphic VIs.

I'd wanted this not for polymorphic VIs but for XNodes.  But it would also be useful for other VIs which handle particular data types.

Might not be useful for icons, but if those colors were in the color picker, it might be nice for custom LV class wire styles. I added refnum cyan to the pre-defined colors a couple versions ago to make it easy to have LV classes that behaved like refnums use the right color for wires. I'll kudos this idea.
