Change Error Cluster indicator

Status: Declined

While I was editing one of the subvi’s in my project I discovered that the wire to the ErrorCluster indicator was gone.

When this is not seen during, editing it will stay unnoticed until there is an error. You never know when this will be.

This will be solved if an ErrorCluster indicator that is not connected will result in a broken arrow.

It can also be solved to set the default value of the ErrorCluster indicators in ‘errclust.llb’ into:

                                                                                                 ErrCl.jpg

Why stop with the error cluster? What about other indicators? And what about controls? ... you can see where this is going.

The VI Analyzer Toolkit has a test for this:

Error Cluster Wired—Checks that the error output on a block diagram node is wired. You can set the test to ignore VIs with automatic error handling disabled. You also can ignore nodes that usually have unwired error outputs.

The VI Analyzer test checks the error output on individual diagram nodes...it does not check whether or not the error indicator is wired.

Other indicators mostly show other data then the default data when they are used. A string indicator with an empty string is not something you use as an output.

An error cluster with the default value that is want you want to see and that is what you get when it is not wired.

That why I changed my error out indicators so I will notice while I am wiring.
