Block Diagram default window

By default the front panel opens when opening a vi, and you need to toggle the view to get to the back panel.  Although it probably doesn't make sense to switch the default behavior for all vis to open the back panel first, it would be nice to have an option to do this on a vi by vi basis.  The main advantage of this case would be the removal of a second window (the front panel), that doesn't need to be take up desktop or taskbar space when only editing code.  Closing the block diagram for a vi that has this option enabled would be equivalent to closing the front panel for those that don't (i.e. save prompting).

Note I found the same idea here, although mixed in with other elements.

Not sure how much benefit this would really have, and I can see how it would confuse others if the VI is distributed. They try to open it, and just get the block diagram, and think the front panel is off-screen. The off-screen situation occurs when some folks post VIs that they created on the 500" monitors that apparently they only seem to have. So, you're left hunting for the front panel.

Other alternatives have been suggested in the last few message of this thread

The benefit would come in not having to manage twice as many windows as you are actually using.  It seems like you are bringing up another Labview problem in it itself that perhaps needs to be fixed, of keeping windows within the viewable size of any attached monitors.  You do have a point though in that it could be a bit confusing, although I would argue not confusing enough to outweight the benefit.  I don't know about most people but when I don't see the front panel and I want to I'm pretty quick to press the Ctrl+E to toggle.

The link seems to be bringing up a completely different point of bringing up the block diagram during run time.

Do you know that Ctrl-Double click brings up the block diagram of a subVI? It would be nice to have this feature in the project window.

Check out the post by PJM_LabVIEW - he makes this suggestion. As I wrote in that thread, it would not be nice to have the CTRL+Double click feature, it ought to be a requirement. There is no way to access the BD of a VI running in a SubPanel, other than dragging that VI into a "dummy" VI and CTRL+Double clicking.
