pci gpib Driver compatibility with RedHat EL4

Hello,

I am installing a PCI-GPIB card in a new machine running Redhat Linux EL4.  (This is kernel 2.6)  I am having trouble loading the drivers for the card (V2.3 driver CD.)  I may have a system hardware problem or just a software setup problem.  Has anyone tried the V2.3 drivers with Enterprise 4?  Is there anything special to get the driver to load?  Is there a newer version of the driver available ?  Beta?

Thank you,

BartG,

There are significant issues with RHEL 4 and the NI-488.2 v2.3 driver.  It isn't officially supported.  What I would suggest if you want to try it out is to install the latest NI-VISA on the system to get some of the newer lower layer drivers, and then install NI-488.2 v2.3.  This isn't recommended, but it may allow you to have minimal GPIB operation in the mean time.  We are working on officially supporting newer distributions of the three NI-supported distros: SuSE Professional, Mandrake/Mandriva, and Redhat Enterprise.
