Hi! Name’s John. Having a bit of a problem making the Lecroy driver work in my setup.

First of – I have Lecroy LC584A. The driver I download from NI.com was lclc5x4a_MS.msi. I then used “Tools -> Instrumentation -> Import CVI Instrument driver” to get lclc5x4a.llb to use with LabView (I have LabView version 7.0, Win98 PC).

I tried opening and running Initialize.vi, but get the following error:

Lclc5x4a Initialize.vi <ERR> Driver Status: (Hex 0xBFFC0011) Identification query failed

Elaboration: Failed to Recognize Model

(??!!!) I thought this driver was supposed to work for all the 5x4a scopes!!  My scope’s GPIB address is 9 and the “Instrument Handle” is GPIB0::9::INSTR.

If I try to use any other VIs, then I get “The session handle is not valid” error. Can someone please help? Thanks in advance.

Hello John,

Alan from LeCroy Tech Support here...

There is a LabVIEW driver for the LC series scopes that should work well with the LC584A: - it's called the "lc3345x4" driver.  Give this a try... It should be much easier to use than the IVI driver. Feel free to call me if you have any questions.

Best Regards,
Alan

Thanks Alan! I downloaded the driver. But I will not have the time to test it out today. So, I'll have to wait a little. But thanks though.

Hi Alan,

I stumbled upon this discussion thread while trying to install an IVI driver for the Lecroy LC584AL O-scope.  After some difficulties I ended up just using the LT344 driver you mentioned there, and it works just fine.  I have a question though - is it possible to aquire an average of waveforms as calculated in the scope?  Right now I'm just averaging in LabVIEW, but I wonder if I can speed things up by having the scope do it.  Also, do you know where I could find the GPIB commands for the device?  I don't see them in the manual.

Hi Clay,

You can setup a math function (e.g trace "TA") to be the "Average" function.  I believe that this was standard on the LT series, but I'm not 100% sure. You can readout the math functions with the LabVIEW driver, and you can also poll to determine when the averaging is complete. (There are bits in the INR change register for this purpose.)

Since this thread was created, I have moved out of the AE group, but the other AE's can certainly give you further assistance - please give a call to 800-553-2769 for more support.  The commands are in the Remote Control Manual: http://www.lecroy.com/files/manuals/WR2_RCM_RevB.pdf

Best Regards,

Alan
