Did you mean:

gpib-vdd.dll

I was getting an error that said

C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe
gpib-vdd.dll  An installable Virtual Device Driver failed Dll initialization.  Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.

I had just been choosing ignore and everything was fine.  I was getting tired of the annoyance and checked this forum for solutions:

I found two links:

and

The first one was a dead link.  I followed the instructions in the second link.

I am now getting the error:

Command Prompt - grep -in v *.c  (yes, I am using a DOS window for grep)
SYSTEM\CyrrentControlSet\Control\VirtualDeviceDrivers. VDD. Virtual Devi ce Driver format in the registry is invalid.  Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.

Ignore still allows my app to run, but the annoyance remains.
Does anyone know if there is a real fix for this bug?
Has NI fixed their uninstaller so this no longer happens?

Any help is appreciated.

Hello,

What version of Windows are you running, and what version of NI-488.2 do you have installed? Also, on what OS, and with what NI-488.2 driver have you successfully used this application in the past? And did you have an older version of NI-488.2 installed on his current system? Thanks.

Regards,

I am running windows XP

I have never run any 488 devices on this PC.

The 488 driver installed when I was installing some other stuff and didn't notice that 488 was included.

I was doing some cleanup and removed the 488 driver.  That's when the problems started.

I have since added some other software to this PC (notably LabView RT for a PXI).  I just gave up and re-installed 488.

No more errors.

This really is something that NI should fix in their driver install/uninstall.

Thanks for the thought.

I experienced the same error, followed the instructions at:

And still got a similar error.

Note that 'entry' in the above link is a bit vague.

One should delete the Value Data, not the Value Name.

If you delete the Value name, the VDD Multistring disappears.

You will need to navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\VirtualDeviceDrivers

and create a new multistring value, and rename it "VDD".
