e4418b, simple ctrl via RS232

Hi

can anyone provide a simple working example of RS232 setup parameters, and a command like *IDN?.

I want to verify the communication setup, but it's not working correctly.

The RX symbol is blinking on the E4418B whenever i send a cmd, but it's not reacting otherwise.

If i send the *TST? cmd, i would expect it to run the selftest.

When i send a MEAS1? cmd, do i have to do anything further to get the result ? like read some output buffer, or is the result send directly to my terninal program ?

br

Nikolaj

There is an example that comes with the driver - Help> Find Instrument Drivers. After installation, use Help> Find Examples and look under Hardware Input and Output.

You could have a mismatch in communications settings, the instrument may not be configured for serial, you could be using the wrong type of serial cable. What error code/message do you get?

is must be something with the comm setup.

I changed from "putty" to "termite" terminal and setup in same way.

However now it's working like i expected.

There must be something "hidden" in the "putty" tool

Hidden?

More like you didn't configure Putty properly.

If you say so.

You might as well give up.
