cRIO 9014 & RS232

Solved!

I'm taking my first steps with a cRIO 9014 - for a VI running on the FPGA target, is it possible to use the RS232 port on the cRIO as an output?

Hi SamD,

In answer to your question I am making a couple of assumptions. I assume your VI is running on the FPGA in your cRIO. In this case, the short answer is no. Only the Real-Time target can access the serial port so you would need to provide an interface between the Serial port (running on the RT target) and the FPGA.

I have also attached a Knowledge base article that explains how to implement RS-232 with NI FPGA hardware but you would need to add some additional hardware to do this. I would recommend the Developer Zone article.

I hope this helps,
