Windows couldn’t find the correct driver for GPIB-USB-HD

Hello,

I have a piece of equipment (solartron frequency analyzer 1255B with 1287 interface). The GPIB-USB-HS is active and connected to Windows 10 64-bit desktop; however, the driver couldn’t be found and updated under both device manager or NI Max. Anyone knows how to solve this?

Thanks!

GPIB-USB-HS requires NI-488.2 as a driver.

If the problem is simply that the driver does not exist, there should be an "Other" item in Device Manager for unrecognized devices.

Hello,

Yes, I downloaded and installed NI-488.2. However, the GPIB-USB-HS still doesn't recognize the driver, even I manually selected the driver folder. It showed "No compatible driver was found".

Please help. Thank you!

Normally, it is not necessary to manually select the folder where the driver is located.

If the NI-488.2 (driver) has been installed correctly, the driver will be selected automatically just by connecting the USB.

Check the following.

  • Does the NI MAX recognise the NI-488.2?
  • (If so, it will appear in the NI MAX software section.)
  • Is the lamp lit when the GPIB-USB-HS is connected to the PC?

(If not, try another USB port on the PC.)

(If possible, install the driver on another PC and check whether it is also recognised.)

  • How is the GPIB-USB-HS recognised in the device manager?

If you take a screenshot of each of these and paste it into your post, you may be able to give some hints

Hello!

I attached the screenshots here. I don't see NI-448.2 driver in the NI MAX.

Yes, the lamp lit on ready status when I plugged the usb to the desktop, and it was recognized by the device manager. However, there was an error for updating the driver when I clicked on GPIB-USB-HS. Windows couldn't find the driver. Please help! Thank you!

These images show that NI-488.2 is probably not installed.

Open the software section and install NI-488.2 if it is not already there.

If it is installed, it will appear as follows.

Hello,

I followed your instructions and saw NI-488.2 driver installed and under software tab in MAX. However, the GPIB setting showed no driver. Do I need to reinstall NI-488.2?

Thank you!

If NI-488.2 exists in the software section but it shows that the driver is missing, there may be an error such as driver corruption, so please reinstall it.
We recommend checking whether GPIB-USB-HS is recognized by another PC before trying it.
If it does not work on other PCs, the GPIB-USB-HS itself may be malfunctioning.

Did you buy this from NI or a re-seller?  You might want to call NI and verify that the GPIB-USB-HS is genuine. The drivers only word with genuine NI devices.

There were some unscrupulous people selling fakes a few years back.  See the advice in this thread - https://forums.ni.com/t5/Instrument-Control-GPIB-Serial/Genuine-NI-GPIB-USB-HS-warning-message/m-p/3...
