Windows XP 64 PCI GPIB driver

Jason,

When you say "SDK", I'm assuming you mean you are using the NI-DAQmx driver or the Traditional NI-DAQ (Legacy) driver.  If this is the case, I am not aware of Windows XP 64 bit support at this time.  However, I would recommend posting questions about these drivers in the Multifunction DAQ forum.  Here, other customers and NI Application Engineers more familiar with those drivers can address any specific questions.  The reason I asked if you are using the MHDDK is because we do have a beta version of the OS interface layer that will work on 64 bit Windows.  However, if you aren't using the MHDDK, it is not as easy to use as the previously mentioned drivers.  If you are using the MHDDK or are interested in using the MHDDK, please post to the DDK forum so other customers and NI developers more familiar with the MHDDK can assist.  For more information on the MHDDK, please refer to KB: 3GEA1PN8.

Jason,

Just to clarify, as Jeremy said, there is no NI-DAQmx or Traditional NI-DAQ driver support for Windows XP 64 at this time.

Maybe I am missing something and this question has already been answered, but can you give me some info on the progress made on a Windows XP 64bit PCI GPIB driver?

My reasons for asking are outlined here.

Jeremy & GDE,

Thanks for your replies. We are using the Traditional NI-DAQ (Legacy) driver, but we'd be happy to switch to NI-DAQmx if that meant we could use the 6601 on Windows XP x64.

I know there currently isn't a driver for either, which is why I'm trying to find out if there's been any progress made since I first asked about that.

I hadn't heard of MHDDK before, so thanks for the heads-up, but it appears to be a tool to allow us to write the driver ourselves. Is this the case? Does that mean NI has decided not to write a Windows XP x64 driver for the 6601 and we have to write it ourselves if we want one?

Thanks,
Jason.

Jason,

I’m afraid that I can not comment on the current state of driver development. As for your other question MHDDK is tool for developing your own drivers. This is often done by people looking to create custom drivers for their very specific applications who want something a bit easier then register level programming. Jeremy mentioned this as a potential option since it is used primarily for customers wanting to develop applications on operating systems that aren’t currently supported through more traditional routes. In addition to the links Jeremy provided, here is another good resource for MHDDK.

At this time we have decided that a driver will not be developed for Windows XP 64.  We are planning on releasing a 64 bit driver for Windows Vista in early 2007.

Thanks,

You may now request to participate in the NI-488.2 for Windows Beta Program by visiting the NI Beta Program Resource Center. The beta driver is not yet available, but beta program participants will be notified as soon as it is available.

As I mentioned in my previous post, we will not be supporting Windows XP x64, but the beta driver will provide support for Windows Vista.
