Windows XP 64 PCI GPIB driver

So Andrew... did you reinstall Windows XP over your Windows XP64 and did everything work out when using the labview applications with the normal Windows XP. I ask as I just recieved a computer (not ordered through myself either) to be used extensively in a test set with labview and the system was ordered from Dell so I received Windows XP64, but as you know, none of my NI hardware is being recongnized or the labview related software (NI-Daq, NI-Scope, etc).  I would appreciate any other input from people who have solved this issue.  Thanks in advance.

Yes that's what I ended up doing, for a $99CND charge Dell will swap OS and send the windows XP(x86) Disk. Once the 32 bit OS was installed everything is working fine.

Thanks I will give it a try!!!! Silly Dell, I just got off the phone with one of their techs...and the concept of swapping OS systems was unheard of to him....I don't know why they boast about having the #1 consumer service department.

I'll tell you right now deal with their customer care department they are exellent. I messed around for a week with our sales rep and their technical department. When I finally contacted customer care I had the CD in two days and the new key a day after that.

I just formatted the Hard Drive the OS was installed on (C:). When ever I reinstall an OS I usually completly reformat the Drive. After I did this I did have to go to Dell's download page and download some drivers.

In regards to your request for motives to switch to XP x64: the main reason to switch to XP x64 for me is working with large datasets. I'm in the process of building a new XP x64 system for running a 3rd party software upgrade, which takes advantage of the XP x64 features. On the same system I want to run Matlab 7.2 to do optimizations on large datasets and use the result to control a machine over the NI-488 bus. It would be a shame to have to install a second OS and having to switch between them after the calculations to be able to communicate with the NI-488 bus. Since I want to do the communication from Matlab and only one "intrument" is hooked up to the bus I only need a device driver that will let me use the Traditional NI-488.2 Calls. Can you give me some info on the progress made on a Windows XP 64 PCI GPIB driver?

Thanks in advance,

Likewise. While I'm sure Dell is quite happy to continue selling Windows to their customers twice,  I would really like to know if any progress has been made in the last seven months on releasing a 64 bit driver for the PCI 6601. I'll be commissioning a new demo PC this week that will show off our software in all its 64-bit glory except for one thing -- the handwheels connected to the PCI 6601 card. To demonstrate that I'll need to install a second operating system and dual-boot, running a 32 bit version of our software. Ironically, the users for whom 64 bits offer the most benefits are exactly the same users most likely to want to use the software with handwheels.

Are we any nearer to a solution? Do we have a possible release date?

Thanks,
Jason.

Jason,

Are you looking for a version of DAQmx that will work on 64 bit Windows?  Or are you looking for 64 bit support for the Measurement Hardware Driver Development Kit (MHDDK)?  If it's the latter, please post your request on the DDK forum.

Thanks,

Jeremy

Hi Jeremy,

We use the NIDAQ SDK to interface to the PCI 6601 card. My first post on this thread has the details. What we need is a Windows XP x64 driver for the PCI 6601 -- that is the only thing holding us (and our customers) back.

As previously suggested by JasonS last July, I posted a request on the Product Suggestion Centre and I applied to join the NI-DAQ beta program at that time but haven't heard anything back since. Also as suggested by ScottieB I have been following this thread to monitor the progress.

Given that the only CPU still in production that is not 64 bit is Intel's notebook Pentium-M (and even that will be replaced by the 64-bit Merom in a couple of months) and that people are now receiving PCs with Windows XP x64 by default according to some of the posts above (and are having to contact the manufacturer and pay them to supply a 32 bit version of Windows so they can use it with NI equipment), now seems like a good time to ask again whether a driver is forthcoming. I think I read recently that they're going to be releasing a 64 bit driver for Vista so I hope they are not simply planning to skip Windows XP x64 completely, especially since those of us doing professional 3D graphics will be adopting a "wait and see" attitude towards Vista due to the questions regarding OpenGL support in that OS. If they are planning to skip Windows XP x64 completely then I'd like to know about it ASAP so we can look at alternatives rather than just hanging on.

Thanks,
Jason.
