What is the difference among NI VISA, Agilent VISA and Tektronix VISA?

Hi everyone,

As I known, VISA is a standard but different vendor have different implement.

Could I use NI's GPIB products with Agilent's VISA? if I original installed Agilent VISA with Agilent's instrument.

Could I use NI's GPIB products with Tektronix's VISA?

I am confused of this,

If some vendor say their GPIB product is NI ocmpatible, does that mean their product can not be used with Agilent VISA?

Thank you,

Steve

Hello Steve,

VISA is a standard but just like 488.2 for GPIB each vendor has their own specific version of the driver.

National Instrument hardware will only work with NI-VISA and is not compatible with other vendors VISA drivers.

I believe the converse is true for other vendors.

You can however use National Instrument interface devices (GPIB, Serial etc) to communicate with hardware from all kinds of vendors.

NI VISA is free and can be downloaded here

Thank you.
