Problem of communicating with SR245 by serial port

Hi,
I am using Sr245 computer interface module of stanford research system by rs232 serial port. I have tested the port and cable, they are all ok. But I can not talk with this device. Even I cannot get a activity or error light flash of it. I used visa serial read and write. And the command I sent to it is: MR;I6;MS;ET;?1
Anyone has experience working with this baby?
Any help will be great appreciated!

Have you checked:

Port Settings (baud rate, data, parity, stop)
Flow Control Settings
Cable type (straight through vs. null-modem)

Can you send this command manually using a program like hyperterm (Windows)?

Thank you!
I used the default values for My port settings and I do not know which flow control should I use.
For the cable type, I used the null-modem. Is there anything should I pay attention to about cable type?
I have used the hyperterm to test my serial port and cable, both are sucessful. But hyperterm cannot talk with this device either.
Have a nice day.

Your device should list which type of serial cable is required (generally either "straight-through" or "null-modem/cross-over" though some exotic cabling methods do exist). In addition the device's user manual should indicate what type of flow control, if any, is used. Flow control will generally either be "RTS/CTS" or "XON/XOFF".

In addition some devices require certain modem lines to be asserted prior to communication. Double check that this is not the case (ie: DTR/DSR doesn't have to be asserted).

Thank you for your information again.
Actually, I only have the specifications data sheet for this device and do not have the manaul for it. So it's hard for me to get the important information you suggested. If I am lucky, maybe I can get one from Stanford Reseach since this is a very ole model device. Also if anyone would like to share the manual with me, that's would be great.
Good luck.

Hi,
I have exactly similar problem as yours when trying to communicate with SR 245. I am not sure even if my computer is even detecting it. If you solved your problem can you please offer some advice as of how you would proceed to set up communication with SR245 with either cable(RS232 or GPIB). Any help would be  appreciated.

Thanks,
Vijay

Hi,
I've got the same problem that the manual for the SR245 is lost. If you can manage to get hold of one, would you please share it with me?
Thanks a lot!
Nicole

Guys;

I have the same problem like what you had before when SR 245 had trouble communicating with downloaded driver by serial port. I used a cable to connect with SR 242 and computer. I didn't change any port setting, so I used the default number.

I changed the VISA source name as : com1. When I ran the driver,  I didn't see any thing happening. No activity light and error light blink.

How to fix the problem?

I appreciate your help

LL
