NI USB-485 VISA Test Panel Read Timeout Error

Hello,

I'm hoping to get some help on this specific issue because my searches through the forum and the NI website haven't yet led me to a solution.

I am using an NI USB-485 and am really just trying to communicate via the VISA Test Panel. However, queries and reads fail with the following message:

Read Operation
Error

VISA: (Hex 0xBFFF0015) Timeout expired before operation completed.

I've tried altering config settings, changing the "bytes to read," editing my configuration in NI MAX... I'm not certain where I'm going wrong and could use some input. Please see my current status in the attached snips. I've included the DB9 configuration in my HW setup, a readout from NI Serial Troubleshooter, NI MAX configuration, VISA Test Panel configuration and I/O query attempt, and NI I/O Trace Property readings.

DB9 Config:

NI Serial Troubleshooter:

what ended up being your solution? I have similar error messages even though I can confirm the equipment does allow for *IDN? I get a read timeout. And yes Ive done the whole thing with trying different carriage returns.

Hi,

I think we can help you better if you start a new thread. Show us what you have done, which instrument, how is it connected, etc.

So you have a RS-485 instrument that supports the IEEE-488.2 standard? Definitely not impossible but fairly uncommon!! Just as the OP, you forgot to mention what the device is that you try to talk to. That would at least give us the option to try to find a manual online to verify that it supports IEEE-488.2 commands.
