How to use Labview to read data from a magnetic card reader.

I am working on a labview project that uses a magnetic card reader (msr605). I am new to labview but this is how my program is supposed to function. A user will swipe his/her card then labview will process the information and determine if the swiper has the credentials. If they do then the program will generate a digital output to the DAQ. I am unsure how to interface the magnetic card reader with labview.

According to the manual I found, it uses a serial interface. There are examples that come with LabVIEW. I would suggest you first try out communication with terminal emulation program such as Hyperterminal.
