We have an application where some serial-interfaced devices are controlled by a 4-port PCI-232/485 (ASSY 184686A-02). The application has been working fine for several weeks, and then suddenly stopped working on May 16 or 17. Further investigation revealed that the 485 serial driver (version 3.2) was missing. Microsoft Updates, including the "Malicious Software Removal Tool"were automatically run on or around the same date the application stopped running. Other colleagues here at work report similar incidents where (non-NI) drivers disappeared immediately following a routine Microsoft Update. Because of this, we feel there is sufficient reason to believe that Microsoft Updates is the culprit in removing our serial driver(s). The application ran fine once the drivers (version 3.2) were reinstalled.
Has anyone else suffered a similar situation? What is the thinking on the best way to deal with this issue?
