Control Serial Device with I/O board?

Solved!
Go to solution
I have a serial device (RS232) that I would like to control with Labview.  It works fine when connected directly to the serial port of a computer, but I would like to control it on a computer that doesn't have a serial port.  This second computer does have a CB-68LPR I/O board connected to it though.  I am wondering if I can hard wire certain pins from the serial device to the LabVIEW board.  If this is possible, what pins would I need to wire, beyond the basic transmission lines?

The CB-68LPR is not a DAQ board - it's just a dumb terminal block.

Even if you have an actual DAQ board that is connected to the terminal block, it would be extremely difficult to try to emulate the precise timing you need. It could not be done without hardware time digital I/O. This question has been asked numerous times. The cost of a USB-RS232 is so little that it is just not worth the time to even try

Thanks for your quick response.  I searched for similar topics, but couldn't find anything.  I will look into getting the USB converter.
