Can I use a GRAS 46AE1/2" microphone with a NI 9231 card?

Solved!
Go to solution

I am asking myself if I can use the microphone GRAS 46AE with the NI9231 card.

The NI 9231 has an IEPE compliance voltage of 19 V.

The GRAS 46AE has a DC bias voltage of 12 V and an Output Voltage Swing of 8 V. So 12 V + 8 V = 20 V which is larger than the compliance voltage of 19 V.

Also, the GRAS 46AE requires a 24 V CCP voltage supply.

Is my calculation correct?

Since the bias voltage is less than compliance, the microphone will function but limited range.

You will not be able to get the full 8V swing described in the datasheet. You can back calculate the signal voltage from the maximum dB SPL you intend to measure using this microphone.
