NI USB-8486

I have a need to connect to a Profibus DP network. Since Profibus DP and Foundation Fieldbus are ELECTRICALLY identical, can I use this module to connect to a Profibus DP network even though it is targeted at a Foundation Fieldbus network? I have a NI USB-8486 and a program that needs to interface to the Profibus DP network and want to know if I can use this adapter to access the Profibus DP network.

No, unfortunately not. Even though both protocols use the same physical layer, the 8486 is locked to the foundation fieldbus driver and will not work with any other fieldbus.

I think it is Profibus PA ( not DP ) that is the same physical layer as Foundation Fieldbus
