DeviceNet connection intermediate failure

Hi friends,

I've created a application to test an UUT which has different protocols like CAN (Master/slave), DeviceNet, EtherNetIP, Profibus. I'll test the unit initially using CAN commands and finaly verify any one of the industial communication like (DeviceNet, EtherNet IP or profibus).

The application is running good, and there is an intermediate error where out of 10 units 1 unit reports failed for DeviceNet communication.

I've tried different way to troubleshoot this one but still failed.

I'm using D-NET ver 2.3, LabVIEW2012 SP1.

Hi gnshmrthy,

I have a few questions to help understand your system:

  • How is your network connected?
  • Do you have a CAN Breakout Box?
  • Are you using terminated cables?
  • Can you describe the error you are seeing?
  • Is it the same error consistently?
  • Are you using the DeviceNet card as a Master or Slave?
  • Which DeviceNet card are you using?
  • Is it failing to communicate to same slave or master?
  • Are you using the example code that comes with NI-DNET? If not, does it work as expected?

Thanks!

Hi Aix,

Here are my answers,

1.  The DeviceNet is connected from a PXI chassis (PXIe1062Q) and controller (PXIe8115) through a T Terminal connection with the UUT.

2. No we don't have a CAN Breakout Box

3. Yes

4. So far we have seen the error in executable, since it's an intermident we are trying to test with the code and get the error code.

5. Maybe since we don't have error code we are not so sure about it.

6. DeviceNet card is used as master

7. PXI 8532

8. Yes. The scenario is like this the same UUT is continuously tested with the DeviceNet communication for 5 times and we'll see the DeviceNet failed to communicate 1 time. Here PXI 8532 is a Master and UUT is Slave at all instance.

9. No the code is working as expected.
