Error when calibrating PXI-5152 using Calibration Executive 3.4

When calibrating a PXI-5152 using Cal. Exec. 3.4 it calls out for using a Agilent 33220A Function Generator, this is on Cal. Exec. Help.

It also has a note stating: The Agilent 332xx are the only function generators supported in automated mode.

We have the Agilent 33250A that we are trying to use.

But when you actually go to set up the test equipment to run the test, there are no options for any 332xx in the list for the Function Generators.

Only units listed are: unsupported instrument, HP 3325B, 33120A, or instrument driver for National Instruments Signal Generator.

I've tried to use the 33250A and select the 33120A as the Function Generator. The 33250A goes in to remote and seem to work until it actually

does the first trigger check after the self calibration. I get the following Calibration procedure error:

Error - 1074126845 occurred at niScope Fetch Cluster.vi

at step Verify Trigger Accuracy on External TRIG:2Maximum time exceeded before the operation completed.

Status Code: -200221

This error code is undefined. No one has provided a description for this code, or you might have wired a number

that is not an error code to the error code input.

Can someone give me some help on what I should do to fix this so I can complete the calibration of the PXI-5152? Thanks.

Hi there,

This is certainly unexpected behavior. I'll look into why this is happening and post back here as soon as I find something out.

I looked into this and it turns out to be a known issue that R&D is looking into. Look for it to be fixed in an upcoming patch. Sorry about the inconvenience.

Hi PXI-5600,

In the mean time, have you tried running the calibration in manual mode (ie - select "unsupported instrument")? Unfortunately, you will have to manually change the settings on the function generator for each step, but you should be able to complete the procedure in this manner. Sorry again for the inconvenience, but thanks for further bringing this to our attention.

Downloaded Cal. Exec. 3.4.1 and still have the same error codes coming up. Thought maybe we may have some issue with the computer we was using and tried it on another PXI-8110 but still comes up with the same error codes. Did a NI Spy on it as Kyle Austin there at NI suggested and emailed him the file of what was captured.

I even tried to run the 33250A as an unsupported unit, and came up with an error there as well.

Hi PXI-5600,

This appears to be an issue with the way you've made your connections. The procedure is failing at verify trigger accuracy. Page 44 of the 5152 calibration procedure (http://www.ni.com/pdf/manuals/372023c.pdf ) goes through what calibration executive is doing to verify the trigger. If you have LabVIEW you can go through the steps to see where exactly things are failing. I suspect there may be an impedance mismatch that is causing a trigger level to differ from what is expected causing the test to timeout. In particular, verify everything is connected as specified on page 47.

Let me know what you find.

We've checked our cables, verified the 50 ohm term, checked the power splitter, all good!

Checked the Generator output, it's good.

Cal. Exec sets up the Generator, so I don't know what else we can do at this point.

No I don't have LabView.

Hey,

Could post telling me exactly what equipment (manufacturer and model) you're using? The error you're getting indicates that the trigger is not received. If you open Scope Soft Front Panel and set your trigger parameters to be:

Type: Edge

Mode: Norm

Coupling: DC

EXT Cpl: DC

Slope: Positive

Source: External

Level: 0.

and feed in a 0.95 V sine wave, does the scope trigger? What if you increase the level to, say, 500 mV?

 Error  -1074126845 at niDMM Read.vi

 at step Verify ACVoltageMax

"Max Time exceeded before operation completed"

I have been getting this same error number when calibrating some PXI-4070 DMMs,

I was able to resolve, and getting to the end of the procedure by launching NI I/O Trace while running CalExec 3.4.1
