RoboRio

Hello, I am a Instructor for a robotics team and we had our first comp the weekend of March 3rd. Our rio died midway through the competition due to a piece of metal falling in to one of the ports. We have another competition coming up the weekend of March 25th so we need one asap. Can someone reach out to me on how to replace my rio, is there any cost to swap the old and new?

Hi Joshua, thanks for posting on the forums. I'm Matthew with NI.

Fortunately, the roboRIO includes short protection and is likely able to recover. Are you able to remove the metal and power cycle the device?
(You may find it easiest if you remove the four screws on the back and the two screws at the power port to open the device up and use a flash light and/or compressed air to completely clean off the board of any metal shavings).

Yes we found the piece of metal and extracted it, we disconnected all power when doing so, we reconnected, power cycled and reimaged the rio, it worked for about 1min 30secs before faulting out again

Was this on a test bench or on a robot? If it was moving before faulting out again, that could be explained by more metal inside that shifted.

If that doesn't work, what are the signal lights showing? (in particular, power and status)
