loss of communication with CFP 20-10

Hello ,
We have some problems of communication with a Compact Field Point module 20-10.
We have received this new device one week ago and we try to configure the iak file.
In the MAX we see the different modules of our network and the compact field bus but we cant get the information of any of our analogic inputs (error message on the status is communication impossible )
Sometimes the communication works (without any changes in the software configuration ) but it doesnt last for a long time and the communication is quickly lost again
The ethernet cable seems OK , the LED seems OK but we cant figure out why such trouble shootings problems occurs.
We can notice that a ping request is OK ,which means that the IP adress of the field point is OK.
We will be very pleased to get some help from any support or people who have had the same difficulties as us.
Best regards
Jean François

Jean François,

The most common cause for the behavior that you are describing is having the [c]FP ethernet module (16xx or 20xx) have the same IP address as another device on your network. You can check this by disconnecting the FieldPoint module and trying to ping the IP address assigned to the module. If you get a response, then the problem is that multiple devices have the same IP address. Change the IP address of the network module. Note: you may first need to reset the modules IP address (via the DIPswitch) in order to be able to communicate well enough to change the IP.

Hello
Thank you Aaron for your quick anwser.
I have forgotten to say that the CFP module is the only device who is connected on our network.
In fact we have only one PC connected to a CFP.
So if we disconnect it ,we have nothing and of course our ping request get no response.
If the connection is on of course the ping request get a response.
I can just tell that this PC was used to communicate wither former FP modules and maybe there is
something wrong or out to date with its iak configuration.
We will carry out some others tests in order to find an explanation to our problems.
Of course i will be very pleased to get some others advices form experts.
Thank you for your help

Jean-François,

Some other things to consider:
Are both the computer and the cFP module set for static IP addresses?
Have you tried a different cable?
Sometimes the ethernet auto-negotiation between two devices can fail, try explicitly setting your computer to either 10baseT or 100baseT and do the same thing to the FieldPoint module. For the FieldPoint module, this will be in MAX>>Remote Systems>>[ModuleName]>>Advanced Ethernet Settings.

Aaron
