Using FP-QUAD-510 with HP HEDS 5640 A06 encoder

When viewing the channel 0 (count) using FPExplorer, it seems that I get around 2000CPR, instead of the 500 that this encoder is supposed to output. What does channel 0 keep track of? (Using Axis 0 only)

Greetings,

If the device specifies that it outputs 500 CPR, then if you see 2000 in FieldPoint Explorer, this is most likely the correct result. Some encoders specifications are based only on a rising transition of one signal for one period. This would mean that both signal A and signal B are 500 Hz signals and for one period of each signal, only 1 pulse is counted. When using the FP-QUAD-510, the device actually reports 4 counts per period; the rising and falling transitions of both signals. This is to ensure that the direction of the device is known. Take a look at this document for a little more detail. Also, refer to page 6 of the FP-QUAD-510 operating instructions for illustrations. Hope this helps. Have a good day.
