How do I resize a front panel display so that it fits on a smaller monitor?

I have previously attempted to resize my front panel display under file/vi properties. When the screen adjusts the controls, indicators, etc. get scrambled, and the font does not adjust properly. How do I effectively reduce the screen size so that the whole display is within the monitor's limits.
