Finding RPMs of a motor

Hi,

I am trying to find a way to obtain the RPMs of a motor.  I'm not exactly sure where to start.  I only have access to analog and digital input fieldpoint hardware.  Is this possible to do with this hardware?  How would I go about getting the readings from the motor?

I don't know if this helps, but the motor is a propane powered Vanguard 570 V-TWIN.

Hey Rick,

Does your motor have a controller on it that would respond back to some sort of commands? If not, do you have any sensor that could interface with your motor and send either digital or Analog signal back for parsing? I am not too sure of what kind of sensor you would use hear. May be others have a better suggestion. Have a great weekend!
