New auto-logout? Anyone else?

Solved!
Go to solution

Hello Karina,

this mornig I had another auto-logout on a different page.

I was browsing the CVI forum and went to this thread I started a few days ago. I clicked on the link in Ian.W post and immediately noticed something strange: I have set my preferences to have the most recent posts on top but the page opened in the reverse order. When I went to another forum page I found myself logged out..

Hi Roberto,

I attempted to reproduce the issue but I am not seeing any issue so far. After you click on the link that Ian provided, where is it that click next? Are you being logged out consistently, every time you attempt the same steps?

Thanks,

Lili

As far as I can understand from my tests, I have at least 2 scenarios, one of them defective.

Scenario 1: Start Chrome while already logged in (i.e. I previously closed the browser while logged in)

 1. Go to the CVI board with a bookmark (actually this link). I am already logged in and the page is localized in Italian
 2. Go to the discussion seen above, click on Ian link
 3. The page opens with oldest-on-top order. I still appear as logged in but the page is in English
 4. Whichever action I take next, I end up being logged off (I mean, click on All forum topics, next/Previous topic links or even click again on the CVI bookmark in step 1)

This sequence is consistent: I can reproduce it both on Win10 and Win7, always using Chrome. This happens even after clearing browser data.

Scenario 2: Log into the forums during a browsing session

(That is: start Chrome, enter the forums being logged off and then explicitly log in)

In this scenario, no matter which page I show or which link I follow I always remain logged in

Hope this makes sense for you.

I don't want to bother you too much with this; it's a minor bug, I can stand with it!

As an addition, if in step 4 above I click on the notifications feed page link (the red number on top of my avatar) I actually reach the correct page but passing through an automatic login (I see the "profiles\saml2\unsolicited\sso" link passing briefly in the browser address line).

Roberto,

Thank you for the detailed steps. I still do not see the same problem when following the same scenario. Is this only occurring when clicking on that particular link that Ian had posted?

If you change your post sort order back to "oldest first," does the issue still occur?

Also, you may want to update your bookmarked URL to the current structure: http://forums.ni.com/t5/LabWindows-CVI/bd-p/180

The one you use redirects properly, but it may be worth seeing if this helps.

Thanks,

Lili

Hello Lili, this is the only case that I have at present. Here the results of some tests I made:

Updating the bookmark to CVI page: does not help

Sort posts older-first: does not help

Viewing the forum in English language: does not help

EDIT I performed some additional test with very strange results.

First of all, I tested with two different links to the same page:

the link provided by Ian:

https://forums.ni.com/t5/forums/v3_1/forumtopicpage/board-id/180/page/1/thread-id/74031

the link obtained from the CVI page:

http://forums.ni.com/t5/LabWindows-CVI/CVI-executables-causes-Access-Violation-0xC0000005-on-Windows...

as you see they are different.

I NEVER have problems with the second link, and ALWAYS with Ian's one, but provided I visit some forum page before

I mean: if I open a new browser and directly paste the offending link in the address field, I have no problems. If on the contrary I visit a forum page (tested with CVI, Italian, Spanish and Feedback pages) next visit that link I am disconnected.

It's good that it is only occurring with that particular link, as that should be avoidable or we can update the link. Does it happen if you click the same link but from another location such as here?

Your link doesn't expose the misbehaviour, but there is a notable difference between the links: yours uses http, while the one provided by Ian uses https. And that one gives me the error.

I could reproduce the misbehaviour on a fresh link with this procedure:

 1. I went to Rube Goldberg Code discussion, which is full of links to forum pages
 2. I choosed one message (actually this one: More weird array manipulation )
 3. Copied the link given there, pasted in the address field of the browser, modified http in https and pressed Enter
 4. Voilà: the page displayed localized in English and the next click on All forum topics logged me out

(Please note that this one-time-only sequence: if I repeat the procedure all goes well. Neverheless, if I close and reopen the browser I can replicate the process)

When I wrote my post, I actually included the link without http or https as the browser can populate that when the user opens the link.

Example:

This is a the link

I am not seeing any issues when I am changing between http and https when browsing the community in Chrome. Do you see similar issues on other sites that use https vs http?

Till now this is the only site where I have found such an issue.
