Jaguars Smokes without reason (odd...)

Hey,

When we powered up the robot it imediately started to move forward (much slower rate than full power). We went after it and cut it off and soon after, one of the jaguars emitted a puff of smoke...

I might not be a professional, but I think that electronics smoking isn't a good thing...

We are still unsure why (naybe somehow metal scraps flew into it, but I don't know).  This soon happened with a second of our jaguars (which we also replaced with one of the newer ones)

The power board seems fine (it was our new 2011 one) We connected them with the typical gauge wire in the 40 Amp slot.

These were the old type jaguars (brown ones) and have never been used before.

Has anyone else expierenced this problem?

Does anyone know what company makes them, and if they will replace them?

Thanks,

Davis Catherman

Hello,

The best resource for replacement Jaguar controllers is through FIRST Robotics. National Instruments does not manufacture this hardware, and does not act as a distributor. I have linked the US FIRST contact information below:

Thank you very much for your time.

Jaguars are made by Luminary Micro (now TI). They have a website dedicated for FIRST at http://luminarymicro.com/jaguar. There you'll find all the documentation for the jaguars, a FAQ, a description of the failures from the 2009 season, as well as a link to the RMA process.
