FRCLabVIEWUpdate1.0.zip Can it be installed over any version of Labview?

FIRST linked to FRCLabVIEWUpdate1.0 from their control system page. Can this be installed over the version of LabVIEW that was also linked from that page, or can it only be installed over the version that will come in team's kits?

My understanding is it can NOT be installed and coexist with LabVIEW 8.5 / 8.5.1 since they share resources.  It is one or the other.  As far as LabVIEW 8.0, 8.2, or 8.6 you can have these installed along with LV 8.5 FRC.  It is possible to have multiple versions of LabVIEW installed on a single PC.  Hope this is clear.  Matt

You should not install this update over a regular version of 8.5.1.  You will need to install the FRC Software 2009 from the DVDs that arrive in the pre-ship kit and then install the update over that version.  The FRCLabVIEWUpdate1.0.zip doesn't contain all of these software pieces, it only contains the software pieces that have changed after the DVDs were burned for the pre-ship kits which needed to happen well in advance of when the pre-ship kits were sent out.

Is is possible to install FRC LabVIEW and maintain a standard LabVIEW 8.5.1 installation?

If not, there is a fundamental problem with NI is asking people who use LabVIEW on daily basis to help out with FIRST.  It is very likely that these developers are using LabVIEW 8.5.1 on a daily basis.

No.  Unfortunately you cannot have LabVIEW 8.5.1 and LabVIEW FRC package software as two distinct separate entities on a single machine.

This has made this software a challenge for support.  I am sure you appreciate the dilemma this has caused since all of us have LabVIEW 8.5.1, Real-Time, Vision, and many more LabVIEW modules installed.  Many of us have installed virtual machines on our desktops and installed the LabVIEW FRC package on a clean Windows image.  This has been very sufficient for development.

Rest assured that R&D reads these forums and listens to your feedback.

BLAQmx,

Thanks for the response.  I will be using VMWare Server (free) as a solution for this.

Although you can't maintain two separate installations of 8.5.1, if you install the FRC software over your standard LabVIEW 8.5.1 you should not lose any of the functionality from your standard install.  If you already have a pro license - it should default to that license.  You can switch from the reduced palette set that is the default for FRC by going to the Tools>>Switch Palette Set and selecting the option for a full palette set.  The FRC software install will also install a plugin for the vision assistant, some FRC specific libraries and examples, some driver updates, etc....  These shouldn't affect the functionality of your existing LV 8.5.1 installation.  That being said, it does make it  "non-standard", so you still may want to use a virtual machine.

Is there a way to remove this update?  I have the same problem.

Go to Control Panle, Add / Remove Programs, National Instruments, NI First Robotic Competition Features, Remove.  Should remove it from your system.

Hey Christy,

Is the FRC LabVIEW Software available for download yet? I couldn't find it.  Thanks.
