Exclude folder from compile in WindRiver Workbench

How do you exclude a folder in the project folder from being compiled?

I am using GIT for revision control, and it creates a folder called .git inside the project folder.  Workbench insists on trying to compile all of the files in the folder (which takes a very long time).  Is there a way that I can tell workbench to exclude the .git folder?
