Calibrate the PXIe-4081 DMM

Solved!
Go to solution

I have a PXIe-4081 DMM and want to do a external calibration. From the calibration procedure, it says that I need to call the niDMM Cal Adjust Gain VI or the niDMM_CalAdjustGain function for adjusting the DC Voltage. However no information was found how to call these functions and they not not avaliable on the soft front panel. Do I need to write LabVIEW vi for this or NI already has this code? Any other easier way to perform the external calibration? I use NI-DMM 16.0.

Calibrating a 7 1/2 digit DMM is not trivial. Amongst other things it requires a temperature controlled room.  It is not something you can do from the Soft Front Panel.

The procedure is detailed in this document: https://www.ni.com/docs/en-US/bundle/pxie-4081-cal-pro/resource/4018518.pdf

Alternatively, you can look at NI's or third party calibration services: https://www.ni.com/en/shop/services/hardware/calibration-services.html

If you need to do calibration in house, check out NI Calibration Executive: https://www.ni.com/en/support/downloads/software-products/download.calibration-executive.html

Thanks for your reply. I do have the necessary hardware and suitable environmental conditions to do  the calibration. I also consulted the calibration procedure but it does not mention the requirement of Calibration Executive. Is it really require the Calibration Executive to do  the calibration? Is the Calibration Executive free or I need to purchase it?

Regards.

Hello,

Calibration Executive is a paid software which simplifies the calibration for the user.  It is not required to perform calibrations in house.  You can think of Calibration Executive as a collection of pre-built, automated calibration procedures(basically the manual calibration procedure document which is referenced above already built into an automated test).  You can absolutely use the document to build your own code to do the calibration.

If you are interested in purchasing Calibration Executive or would like to discuss the software in more detail, please contact your NI account representative or give us a call at (888) 280-7645.
