Using NI_DAQ 6.9.3 with LW/CVI 8.5.1

I have a VXI chassis with a DIO-128 module installed.  I'm using a PCI-MXI adapter to connect the VXI cahssis to an external workstation.  I recently upgraded from WIndows NT to XP and installed LW/CVI 8.5.1. However I found out that the latest driver the DIO-128 works with is Traditional NI-DAQ 6.9.3.  So I downloaded 6.9.3, removed NI-DAQ 7.4.4, and installed 6.9.3.  Now CVI can't find the files dataacq.h and nidaqcns.h, which normally reside in the C:\Program Files\National Instruments\CVI85\include folder.  Can I simply copy these files from another workstation?  Or is there a larger problem of running LW/CVI 8.5.1 with older versions of NI-DAQ?  Thanks.

Graybeard,

This Knowledgebase article is very good and absolutely worth a look if you have not seen it.

Using Older Versions of NI-DAQ (6.9.3) with LabVIEW 7.x or 8.x

I strongly doubt 6.9.3 can run LabWindows/CVI 8.5 I cannot find any linkable documentation but seeing as how it doesn't support any 7-8 level regular LabVIEW versions I doubt it supports them in LW/CVI.

Thanks for the reply Jason.  It sounds like your telling me that I can't use CVI 8.5.1 with NI DAQ 6.9.3..  Replacing the NI VXI-DIO-128 is not an option.  Do you know the latest version of CVI that will support my configuration, or do you have any other ideas? Thanks.

Leo,

You can try copying the files in directly and if it works great.  If not then you can try calling in directly to the DLLs.  Which will be supported in any version of CVI.

Jason,

"you can try calling in directly to the DLLs" - can you offer more details on this, or point me to a reference? I'm sort of a beginner with CVI.

I re-installed NI-DAQ 6.9.3 and after some work, was able to access the DIO-128 (and all the other VXI modules) using CVI 8.5.1.  I have some VXI configuration problems that I've addressed in another post (How to save a VXI configuration).  Thanks.
