Output current capability of DIO output of NI 9381

What is the output current rating for the DIO output? Is the output short circuit protected due to the internal resistor shown in the manual. What is the value of this resistor?

Hi,

I don’t think the internal circuitry is as simple as the diagram in the manual. It is not possible to know the resistor value without opening the module up and using a DMM. Most digital I/O devices will incorporate some kind of tri state drivers with circuitry that will also affect what sort of current can be sink/sourced by the device. My guess is that the 100uA in the manual is probably a test condition and not a maximum. I would suspect that this module being LVTTL won’t supply more than a couple mA.

Hi,

In the manual of other LVTTL devices is says:

Output

High, VOH.............................5.25 V max

Sourcing 100 μA............4.7 V min
Sourcing 2 mA...............4.3 V min

Low, VOL

Sinking 100 μA..............0.1 V max
Sinking 2 mA.................0.4 V max
