Need realtime controls of PCI-6503 at ~5kHz

What options do I have to attempt to use the PCI-6503 (PCIDIO24) to do simple digital communications at around 5khz?

With this board software timing is your only option. If you need hardware timing for your digital communications look to the NI-653x series:
