Configuring NI 9361 Terminal

I have 3 linear encoder and I will use NI9361. It wil be connected single ended encoder. But I do not need Z index signal. Can I configure it as digital input for error signal instead of Z signal? If it is possible, one module will be enough for me.

What does Z signal mean?

Z signal is reference signal at the encoder. All encoder does not have, if yours one has,  you must not connect it. Depends on your system
