Advanced Licensing with NILM

For most products licensed with NILM, licenses will be set up to use the standard licensing options:

  • 7 day evaluation without login
  • 45 day evaluation with login
  • Single Package/Single Component
  • No families

For these products, please see the Licensing Third-Party Products with the NILM Third Party SDK

If additional or different licensing capabilities are needed, please discuss this with the LabVIEW Tools Network team before requesting a license.  In order to handle some of the advanced capabilities, you'll need to create Family and Mapping XML files.

Creating the Family XML File

Complete the following steps to create a Product Info XML file for a specific version of a family.

  1. Fill in the fields in the Family XML tab of the XML File Generator. Most of the fields in the Family XML tab are self-explanatory. The following list describes fields that might require additional explanation.
    • Family Name – Name that is appended to the beginning of the XML filename. The format for this field must be FamilyName_Descriptor_Version, where version is in the format nnnnnn.
    • Family Version – The version of the family. The format for this field must be nn.nn.nn.
  2. Click Save Family XML File and save the Product XML file in the C:\ProgramData\National Instruments\License Manager\ProductInfo

Hi David,

Using Families I should be able to have 2 or more license types for my library, correct? For example, Student Edition and Professional Edition?

Let me know your comments!
