NI recently released the latest version of the NI Vision Development Module, a LabVIEW add-on for developing machine vision and image processing applications.
With the new image shared variable feature in LabVIEW 2010, it is easier to build vision applications using LabVIEW projects and to integrate multiple hardware targets, including real-time systems. The image shared variable makes it possible to visualize inspection images from an embedded target on a remote touch panel or monitor and even log images to remote network drives. Additionally, the module makes it easier to analyze and process U16 images, which are used for cameras and imaging systems that have a large dynamic range.
The NI Vision Development Module also adds several new algorithms including the following:
- Texture segmentation – detects flaws such as scratches, blemishes, dents, wrinkles, blisters and streaks in parts with textured surfaces
- Color segmentation – separates objects of different colors
- Contour analysis – analyzes the smoothness of a contour to detect chips, burrs, indents and other shape deformities
- Optical flow – detects movement of objects or features in a sequence of images and provides the motion vectors that describe the motion in an image sequence
