My manager just retired and gave me this before leaving.  I had to look up the patents to figure out what it was.

Hard to tell from the picture but it is only about 2" long, 1/2" wide and maybe 1.5" tall.20170203_105011.jpg20170203_105018.jpg20170203_105022.jpg20170203_105029.jpg

Guessing now...

Testing paper tape either paper tape used in paper tape readers or stock tickers?

I will not look up the patent. It will be more fun that way.

Not even close!

Hint:

Spoiler
I work in a mechanical lab

Edit:  By the way, I messed with the thing for a solid 20 min before I gave up and searched the patent 🙂  I got... close ish.

Since Tinus Olsen gear is used to measure strenths of materials and there lloks like small grooves on rollers on the end...

Ben is getting "warmer".

Yes, I looked up the patents because I had no clue at all.

It's for mechanical testing,,,

you have a fine length measurement, little tip

a big knob to adjust a spring load? To a blade?

a lifting part at the side for loading.

some guiding wheels? Something  (bar) long zylindrical can be pushed through. hight is adjustable...

You dismantel a wire from isolation and have a wire (diameter) gage ? No ...

Hardness testing??

Nice part 😄

I will stop guessing for now and let others take a turn.
