The confusion of avatars

I saw this post here and thought it was Altenbach...I read it and thought, the man has finally gone off his rocker.

Then I realized it wasn't Altenbach.

I think that people with less than a certain number of posts should not be allowed to have the same Avatar as someone with over some other certain number of posts...

Ok, just kidding..but seriously...

Anyone else get bit by the Avatar confusion? I never realized how easily I associate it with the person, instead of looking at the actual name. I guess we really are visual (see: NI LabVIEW programming plug).

But Altenbach's avatar has the evil twinkle in his eye, that is a dead giveaway. 🙂

Unconsciously I see the avatars and do indeed presume it is a given person. Then upon reading the post, if it doesn't seem to be their presumed style/skill level I have to look at the username.

I'm with you, Greg.  I was beginning to think that Christian had lost it as well.

My suggestion would be to retire default avatars that are used by knights.  In other words, NI should not allow newbies to select the teddy bear (ben) or the magician/wizzard/old man (Altenbach) as their avatars.

Yes, I thought someone may bring that up...I guess I'm not detail oriented enough to notice it wasn't there at first glance Smiley Very Happy

The gleam is also how I figured out it wasn't Altenbach.  But you do have to admit that it happens slow enough that you don't notice when you are glancing through.

This gets me sometimes as I find myself looking at the avatar first and the name second.

Hmmm....maybe it's finaly time I change my own icon to something else.

I was thinking you'd lost it there for a minute, then I realised what you were pointing out.

Actually there are a couple of others using the "wizard" lately, and I too had momentary associative disonance. The "twinkle" also occurs infrequently enough that quickly scanning a thread might not reveal it until after the brain had mad the erroneous association.

Kudos, solely on the basis of grammar and vocabulary selection.
