Oh dear, you had to mention the SNAFU where I totally shot myself in the foot with Channel Wires. At least there was a 9 page document showing the problems I'd (inadvertently) caused myself. Sometimes one can be too smart for ones britches.

I never use those. It is sufficient to just type the special codes, typically starting with a (semi)colon.
😄 😮 😉 🙂 etc.
The above line is just typed as:
:D :o ;) :) etc.

Nah.
We don't need no stinkin' syntax.

Bad idea. Why? Because I turned off automatic emojis because it screws with any code people put in as regular text. If you want an emoji, put in an emoji. If you want semicolon parenthesis, put that in. But I don't want the forums to automatically turn symbols into emojis.
So your message actually looks like this to me.
Though even with actual punctuation, the point still gets across. It just doesn't look like an emoji.
But in my opinion, NI should have turned off automatic emojis as the default. Far more often is has caused problems, and has never solved a problem.

Yup, I don't care how they show and how the forum translates them into images (or not). I actually also prefer the plain text versions. Same info content, less bandwidth 😉
