What always drove me nuts was working with Army helicopters. For pilots, distance was in klicks (km) and altitude was in feet. I had to know straight (hypotenuse) distance between myself and the helicopter for testing, so I CONSTANTLY caught myself doing Pythagorean without converting altitude to meters.
I usually do my PCB designs in mm, but most PCB/component manufacturers give all of their specs in mil (1/1000 inch). Ugh.
