It is weirdly broken for me too. My guess is that if the .net object isn't installed in the system, the snippet doesn't know what to do when it gets dropped on the diagram.

Strange, try the attached VI. I must say, that screenshot is a pretty inelegant failure mode. Sorry, guys.
