Title: Using COTS Technologies and Graphical Programming for Instrumentation and Control at the Brazilian Synchrotron
Presenter: Harry Westfahl Jr., Brazilian Synchrotron Light Laboratory (LNLS)
Abstract: The Brazilian Synchrotron Light Laboratory operates a 2nd generation synchrotron storage ring with 18 beamlines. These beamlines are dedicated to several structural and spectroscopic characterization techniques and are used by a large community of scientist for the development of new synthetic and biological materials. Recently, control and data acquisition systems for these beamlines underwent a complete retooling using EPICS along with COTS technologies and graphical programming. In this session, explore the main aspects of this approach on the current beamlines and learn of future plans for beamline control and data acquisition on Sirius, the new Brazilian synchrotron light source under construction.
