Lead Embedded Controls Software Engineer - well regarded grid scale energy storage company - San Francisco Bay Area

Senior Embedded Controls Software Engineer:

Our client is a well-established and well-reputed startup in the grid scale energy storage space. Its product is a complex utility scale flow battery system that boosts the stability and security of the electric grid, enabling increased and faster implementation of utility scale renewable energy projects.

We have a strong preference for a Certified LabVIEW Embedded Systems Developer for this position.

What you will actually be doing in this role:

1) You will revamp a very complex controls system for the company’s next two major energy deployments, which are slated for the summer and the fall of 2015.

2) You will lead all typical phases of control systems engineering (requirements definition, architecture design, algorithm modeling and development, system testing, feature/bug request queue, release control, code verification, deployment and field updates)

3) Within 6 months, you will add increased functionality and reliability to our client’s controls system, implemented on FPGA.

4) You will interface heavily with other internal departments (R&D, management) and external customers (purchasers of product, end users, etc.)

Why this opportunity is compelling:

1) The grid scale energy storage space is hot and there are also huge growth projections for this sector for the next 10 years.  Currently, the boom in wind and solar has created urgent demand for grid scale energy storage solutions

2) VC and government investment is high in this sector of cleantech.  Our client is well funded; it has 45 million in venture funding and 20 million in DOE grants

3) Our client’s technology is superior and differentiated from all of the other flow batteries out there

4) It’s an exciting time to join the team; our client is transitioning out of R&D and focusing heavily on product engineering, commercialization, and scale up

5) Our client has a top tier team: it includes former employees of Tesla, Bloom Energy, Intel, Applied Materials, and Schneider Electric

What you will have the chance to become in this role:

1) Lead a team of embedded controls engineers

2) Recruit a world class team of software engineers

3) Become a Technical Manager

4) Become a Director (or Senior Director) of Controls Engineering

Requirements:

1) BS degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or other equivalent engineering degree with a controls focus from a top-tier engineering program

2) 3+ years of professional experience with sophisticated software based control systems

3) At least 1 year professional experience with Object Oriented Programming

4) At least 1 year of professional experience with heavy embedded context programming where mission critical equipment and human safety is at stake

5) At least 1 year of professional experience with FPGA programming

Preferred Qualifications:

1) Expert level knowledge of LabVIEW RT, LVOOP

2) Certified LabVIEW Embedded Systems Developer

3) Expert in FPGA programming

4) Professional experience in interconnecting utility scale equipment

5) At least 1 year of professional experience with power electronics products

Applications instructions:

1) Send your resume to: sabrina@coneybeare.com

2) Please include a separate document which lists the object oriented programming languages you know and the number of years of experience with each language
